Waterford man shoots at teens, commits suicide

27-year-old man targets teenagers as they walked to school, 1 shot in leg

EASTPOINTE, Mich. – Police say a Waterford man sat and waited for two Eastpointe girls, preparing to shoot, as they walked to East Detroit High School Friday morning.

The incident happened shortly after 7 a.m. in the 22000 block of Firwood in the area of 9 Mile and Hayes.

The 27-year-old reportedly fired at the girls several times, targeting a 15-year-old he met online. She was not shot but her 13-year-old sister was shot in the leg. She suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. A nearby home and van were riddled with bullets.

Police said last month the 15-year-old girl willingly went to the suspect's home where family said the pair had consensual sexual relations.

It is believed the girl may have been drugged and then dropped off at a nearby restaurant.

When her family found out about the meeting they reportedly issued a report with the Waterford Police Department.

The 27-year-old suspect had been missing for about a week prior to Friday's incident. After Friday's shooting his body was found at Detroit's Greektown Casino. Police said he did leave a suicide note.
