Weekend forecast: Cooler temps

Forecast includes important changes to Monday's storm

By Paul Gross - Meteorologist

DETROIT - Evening flurries and snow showers will quickly end, and skies will clear late at night.

Lows around 9 degrees, but it's a bit of a tricky low temp: if skies clear earlier, we'll drop farther down into the single numbers. If clouds hold on later, we'll stay in the lower teens.

We should start our Saturday with some sunshine, but clouds will increase and I expect that we'll be cloudy by the end of the afternoon. Cooler, with highs in the upper teens. West-northwest wind at 5 to 10 mph.

A chance of snow Saturday night -- if we get any accumulation, it would likely be less than an inch. Lows near 13 degrees.

Snow showers end first thing Sunday morning, then becoming mostly sunny at some point during the afternoon. Highs near 25. Mostly clear early Sunday night, then increasing clouds, late. Lows near 7.

Mostly cloudy with snow developing Monday afternoon. Friday's computer models have trended strongly toward a colder solution with this storm, meaning more snow and less mix.

If there's any chance for sleet or freezing rain, that would occur well south of 8 Mile. Areas north of there should stay all snow. Highs around 28.

Snow ends later Monday night. It's too early to speculate about accumulation, but those of you who stay all snow may pick up several inches, possibly putting the Monday morning rush hour in jeopardy. Lows near 7.

Tuesday and Wednesday look dry, with highs in the mid to possibly upper 30s.

Windy on Thursday with rain developing. Highs in the -- are you ready for this -- mid 40s! Rain ends Thursday night, possibly after transitioning to some light snow, first. Lows near 32.

Mostly sunny and windy on Friday. Highs near 38.

By the way, more well-below normal temperatures are headed this way for the last week of the month. Sorry ...
