A former Indiana fertility doctor has pleaded guilty to obstructing justice after he used his own sperm to inseminate patients and lied about it.

Donald Cline, 79, retired in 2009, WISH reported. In January 2015, the Indiana Attorney General's Office began to investigate after receiving complaints that Cline had utilized his own sperm sample at his fertility clinic in the 1970s and 1980s.

In a written statement, Cline initially denied ever using his own sperm to inseminate patients, WISH reported. But in May 2016, he contradicted himself, telling investigators that he did use his own sperm to inseminate women at the clinic.

He was recorded admitting to the act during a conversation with a person determined to his biological child, WISH reported. Plus, DNA testing confirmed he was the father of babies mentioned in the original complaint.

Cline was given a 365-day suspended sentence for two counts of obstruction of justice, WISH reported. No other charges were filed because Indiana doesn't technically keep fertility doctors from using their own sperm when inseminating patients, according to The Associated Press.
