Westland man charged with elderly couple's stabbing

Jeff Peters facing slew of charges in Saturday morning attack on Van Hull Street

WESTLAND, Mich. – The neighbor of an elderly Westland couple has been charged with their stabbing.

Jeff Peters, 50, is charged with assault with intent to murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and bodily harm less than murder and first-degree home invasion.

He was denied bond.

Peters is accused of attacking the couple at their Saturday morning.

Witnesses said he was seen banging on the doors of several homes on Vansull Street during the early morning hours.

When he got to the victims' home, he got into a squabble with the husband when he opened the door.

Peters allegedly used a folding knife to stab the husband -- and eventually his wife when she came to help her husband.

Peters walked away from the scene but was arrested at his house nearby.

The couple, who is in their 70s, is recovering at Oakwood Hospital.

Witnesses told Local 4 Peters is known to have some type of mental issues.

Police said they also found marijuana plants in Peters' home.
