DETROIT – You may be spending a bit more on your Christmas tree this holiday season.
Jill O’Donnell, a Christmas Tree Educator with Michigan State University Extension says growers over supplied the market in the last decade, causing the price of a tree to drop.
“I think the demand is pretty steady for farm-grown Christmas trees," O'Donnell told WPBN. "We may have seen a little bit of an increase [in demand] and we just had an oversupply of Christmas trees so that brought the prices down a little bit as growers were more competitive."
It is possible the trend nationwide for price increases may increase each year, though it may be small.
“There have been costs that have gone up in recent years," she said. "You know, fuel and other input costs, so there may be a chance to capture a little bit of that but I don’t think it will be a major increase that consumers will see."
