Wild car chase ends with four people dead on I-94

Police: boyfriend was chasing girlfriend's car when she lost control

Detroit – It was a horrific scene overnight; four people died following a wild car chase that began along I-94 in Detroit.

A car was being chased by another car down Hurlbut early Sunday morning along the service drive above the highway.

Police say a disgruntled boyfriend was chasing his girlfriend. The fleeing girlfriend was driving with three of her friends in her car.

She lost control and drove over the embankment onto I-94. The girlfriend's car landed on top of a black pickup truck.

"I thought it was like a little movie," said Cortez McCullum who witnessed the accident.

All three people inside the pickup truck were killed. One passenger from the girlfriend's car also died.

"I was in a state of shock," said McCullum. "Man it was my first time seeing something like this."

The girlfriend is currently in critical condition. It's still unclear how the woman lost control of her car.

During this chase witnesses say they heard several gunshots, but police say they didn't find any shell casings in the area.

The boyfriend's car stopped just feet from going over the embankment.

The boyfriend is being detained and questioned by police. He only suffered minor injuries.

I-94 at Gratiot was closed for nearly six hours for the police investigation. They're still trying to piece together details of what led up to the chase.
