Woman killed after losing control of vehicle, sliding across road in Milford

Authorities say speed, weather conditions appear to be factors

MILFORD, Mich. – A Commerce Township woman died Tuesday afternoon when she lost control of her vehicle and hit another vehicle in Milford.

Police said the 29-year-old woman was driving west on General Motors Road near Martindale Road just after 2 p.m. when she lost control, crossed the center line of the road and slid sideways. Her vehicle struck a vehicle that was traveling east.

The woman was pronounced dead at Providence Park Hospital in Novi. The other driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities believe that speed in relation to weather conditions played a significant role in the crash. Roads were slick as snow and icy rain moved through the area.

"This is a sad reminder how important it is for drivers to slow dow and drive to the weather and roadway conditions," said Thomas C. Lindberg, Milford police chief. "With more weather yet to arrive, please slow down and help your first responders and road crews keep you safe."
