CHELSEA, Mich. – A 52-year-old woman was killed Monday in a crash caused by a driver who was fleeing police in a stolen car, Michigan State Police said.
Officials said a Michigan State Police motor carrier officer was investigating a stolen Chrysler 300 on eastbound I-94 near Clear Lake Road at the Jackson-Washtenaw County line when the stolen car exited from I-94 to northbound M-52.

The officer activated his emergency lights, and the Chrysler 300 began to pull over to the shoulder, but then sped off.
Police said the officer followed the stolen car for a short distance before the driver crashed into a Chevrolet Traverse while exiting the Country Market parking lot. The 52-year-old woman driving the Traverse was killed in the crash.
A trooper from the MSP Brighton Post arrived on scene for backup, and the 34-year-old man driving the stolen car was taken into custody. He is being treated for injuries.
Police said criminal charges are pending.
