Woman killed in Southfield apartment fire

Southfield firefighters contain flames to 1 unit at Chateau Riviera Apartments

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – An apartment fire has killed one woman and forced several people from their homes in Southfield.

Southfield firefighters pulled a woman from the flames at the Chateau Riviera Apartments near 9 Mile and Southfield roads Tuesday night.  She was taken to a local hospital, but did not survive.

Fire crews worked to contain the flames to one unit at the apartment complex. However, neighboring tenants were forced out because of the fire in the downstairs unit.

A Southfield fire house is just around the corner about 1 minute away. Firefighters were able to respond to the fire quickly and control it.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
