DETROIT - A 52-year-old northern California woman has been arraigned on a carrying a concealed weapon charge after a gun in her purse was caught on X-ray as she and a male acquaintance tried to enter Detroit City Hall.

The Wayne County prosecutor's office says the $5,000 bond given Elmira Sutton on Thursday in 36th District Court includes her participation in a handgun program. She's from Pittsburg, about 40 miles east-northeast of San Francisco.

Sutton was arrested Tuesday as she was being screened to enter the Coleman Young Municipal Center, which houses Detroit city offices and Wayne County Circuit Court. The building has guards and metal detectors.

Sutton has an evaluation hearing scheduled for Sept. 13. A preliminary examination will be held Sept. 19.
