Woman's body found in pieces at senior housing complex on Detroit's east side

Body parts found at Phillip Sims apartments on Dickerson Street; suspect in custody

DETROIT – One person was taken into custody Friday after a woman's body was found in a senior housing complex on Detroit's east side.

Sources said the body of a woman in her 40s was discovered in an upstairs apartment at the Phillip Sims apartments on Dickerson Street.

Her body was in pieces in a bathtub. A hacksaw and kitchen knives also were found.

A 72-year-old man was questioned and taken away by police.

Detroit police brought in tracking dogs Friday afternoon to search for additional body parts in a parking lot near the apartment complex.

"I just came off the elevator and I saw blood on the lobby floor. That's what I saw," said Alfred Pettigrew, who lives in the complex. "Very scary."

The residents were forced from their homes as police searched.

No motive as to what may have led to the gruesome event has been released.
