Ypsilanti man fatally shot in head during attempted marijuana sale

25-year-old man shot in car while trying to sell marijuana, police say

YPSILANTI, Mich. – A 25-year-old Ypsilanti man was killed Thursday when a man sitting behind him in a car shot him during an attempted marijuana sale.

Police said the shooting happened around 8:15 p.m. in the 800 block of Monroe Avenue near I-94 and Hamilton.

Officers responded to the scene and found a hysterical woman covered in blood on the sidewalk. She told police her boyfriend was trying to sell marijuana to a man who had been sitting in the back seat of a car as her boyfriend drove on Monroe Avenue.

She told police the man in the back seat pulled out a gun and started shooting, striking her boyfriend in the head.

Police found the man with a gunshot wound in the front seat of the car. He was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition but later died.

The victim's girlfriend said the shooter ran southeast from the scene. An occupant of the car who fled during the shooting called Ypsilanti police and was picked up in Ypsilanti Township for questioning.

Police believe drugs were stolen.

The shooter is described as a black man, 18 to 22 years old and 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall. He was wearing a long-sleeved gray hooded sweatshirt.
