HILLSDALE, Mich. – Several neglected dogs were surrendered from a suspected puppy mill breeder in Hillsdale Michigan.
The owner agreed to give up her 16 Shih Tzus, a Cocker Spaniel and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel says Sally Geer, president of Animal Aid of Branch County.

The dogs were found living in filthy conditions. Most of the 18 dogs were covered in fleas and had feces matted in their fur. Many are suffering from skin and ear infections and dry eyes.

One of the dogs is missing an eye from an old injury.
Geer says her group convinced the owner to give up the dogs in return for not reporting the woman to authorities.
The rescue group works with the Branch County Animal Shelter to help homeless animals find new homes. According to Geer, the owner was not charged criminally.
A few of the dogs are being housed at the Humane Society in Battle Creek and many are still receiving treatment at the Care Center Hospital for Animals in Coldwater.
Animal Aid of Branch County also is caring for some of the dogs through foster homes.
