Whalers enjoy big weekend wins

Plymouth tops Saginaw, Windsor with 7-goal games

PLYMOUTH, Mich. – The Plymouth Whalers scored a collective 14 goals over two games this past weekend to improve their already impressive December record to 8-1.

The Whalers started the weekend with a 7-3 victory on Friday over the visiting Saginaw Spirit. Right wing Stefan Noesen notched a hat trick and four points to help Plymouth defeat their in-state rival.

On Saturday, the surging Whalers fell behind 4-2 in the second period to the Windsor Spitfires. On the road with their backs against the wall, Plymouth put together a terrorizing third period for the Spitfires as they scored five unanswered goals to get the come-from-behind win, 7-4.

Defenseman Baeu Schmitz tallied the team's second hat trick of the weekend.

The Whalers (25-9-2-1) sit atop the West Division with a commanding 53 points. However, the London Knights still hold the top Western Conference spot with 55 points.

Saginaw hosts Plymouth on Wednesday for their fourth meeting this season. Plymouth has won all three.
