Preview: Tigers, Royals meet again
Detroit Tigers seek to end Royals' winning ways
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Kansas City Royals attempt to extend a pair of winning streaks Tuesday, when they host the American League Central-leading Detroit Tigers in the middle contest of their three-game series.
Division rival Kansas City posted its season-high sixth consecutive victory on Monday, edging Detroit 3-2 thanks to a three-run third inning and 6 1/3 solid frames from Jeremy Guthrie. All six wins have come at Kauffman Stadium, where the Royals are 6-1 on their nine-game homestand.
The home winning streak is the Royals' longest since a six-game run from Aug. 17-30. They haven't captured seven in a row overall since Sept. 10-17, 2011. Monday's loss halted a string of four consecutive victories for the Tigers, who are 5 1/2 games ahead of both Kansas City and the Cleveland Indians.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Tigers RH Max Scherzer (8-0, 3.24 ERA) vs. Royals RH Wade Davis (3-5, 5.66)
Scherzer has been superb since surrendering five runs in a no-decision against the Houston Astros on May 15, going 3-0 while allowing a total of six runs in four starts. The 28-year-old limited the Tampa Bay Rays to one run and four hits over seven innings in a 5-2 victory on Thursday. Scherzer improved to 7-4 lifetime against Kansas City on April 24 despite yielding five runs in as many innings.
Davis is winless in his last four starts and has recorded just one victory in his last nine outings. The 27-year-old settled for a no-decision against the Minnesota Twins on Thursday after allowing three unearned runs in five innings. Davis made Scherzer's victory on April 24 possible by surrendering seven runs (three earned) over just 3 2/3 frames.
1. Scherzer's eight straight wins to start the season are the most by a Tiger since 2007.
2. Kansas City's bullpen extended its scoreless streak to 20 innings over its last seven contests.
3. The Royals are 7-2 in June after going 8-20 last month.
