Red Wings' Nyquist to make season debut against Hurricanes

Detroit recalls right winger Gustav Nyquist from Grand Rapids

DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings have recalled right winger Gustav Nyquist from the Grand Rapids Griffins in time for him to make his NHL season debut Tuesday night against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Nyquist, 24, leads the Griffins with 21 points in 15 games this season. He has played in 40 games with Detroit over the past two seasons, tallying 4 goals and 9 assists.

Nyquist will join a struggling Red Wings group which hasn't won in the past seven games. Moreover, the team has dropped eight straight games at Joe Louis Arena.

Detroit has room for Nyquist after defenseman Danny DeKeyser was hurt early in Tuesday night's 2-0 loss to the Nashville Predators when he was checked into the boards by Predators forward Patric Hornqvist.

DeKeyser is expected to be out for at least three to four weeks with a separated left shoulder.
