Meryl Davis, Charlie White crowned new Olympic darlings

Duo from Michigan wins USA's 1st gold medal for ice dancing

Ever since winning America's first ice dancing Olympic gold medal, it's been non-stop for Charlie White and Meryl Davis.

On Tuesday, they stopped by NBC's Today Show.

"The ice dancing field was strong and we feel like we came in the team event and the individual event had the four skates we wanted to have," Davis said.

Davis and White are now the newly-crowned Olympic darlings and with that come expectations. Davis told Local 4 the duo is bracing for a jam-packed schedule when they return home to the United States.

Send them a congratulatory message here!

"It's difficult to wrap our heads around it all," she said. "We slept about two hours last night. It's been non-stop media and interviews. It's finally starting to set in for us. It's been such a whirlwind. It hasn't slowed down."

They're not complaining!

Davis and White both say this is what they've been working for, for 17 years. They're happy to talk about their accomplishments and hopefully grow the sport. They just hope they have some time to enjoy it all, too.

"It's been such a quick turnaround," White said. "We're just coming to grips with what it means."

They say they want to thank everyone back in Michigan for all of the support. They can't wait to bring the gold medals home to share with their fans.

"To everyone in Detroit, thanks for all of your support," Davis said.

White added: "We could not have done it without you!"
