Report: Detroit Pistons close to 5-year deal with Stan Van Gundy to coach, run operations

Pistons former GM Joe Dumars stepped down last month

DETROIT – It's the first name we've heard of in the Pistons search for new management.

According to Yahoo! Sports, the Detroit Pistons are targeting former Heat and Magic coach Stan Van Gundy with an offer to assume complete control of basketball operations and coach. The report says the team is close to a 5-year, $35M deal with Van Gundy.

The Pistons are reportedly competing with the Golden State Warriors for Van Gundy's services, but other reports say the Warriors are not offering complete control of basketball operations.

Stan Van Gundy has a .641 winning percentage as head coach, and reached the NBA Finals with the Orlando Magic in 2009.

In April, Joe Dumars stepped down from his position as the Pistons' president of basketball operations after 10 years with the team.
