Tigers trade Porcello to Boston for Cespedes; Acquire Simon from Reds
DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers today announced the club has acquired outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, righthanded pitcher Alex Wilson and lefthanded pitcher Gabe Speier from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for righthanded pitcher Rick Porcello.
Cespedes hit 22 homeruns in 2014, with a .260 batting average, and 100 RBI's. He will add some pop to the Tigers outfield.
Porcello, 25, posted a 15-13 record, 3.43 ERA (204.2IP/78ER), and 129 strikeouts for Tigers in 2014. Over six seasons at the major league level with the Tigers, Porcello posted a 76-63 record, 4.30 ERA (1073.1IP/513ER) and 655 strikeouts in 180 games started (184 games).
The Tigers are not done.
The Detroit Tigers today announced the club has acquired righthanded pitcher Alfredo Simon from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for infielder Eugenio Suarez and righthanded pitcher Jonathon Crawford.
The 33-year-old SP went 15-10 with a 3.44 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 32 starts last season.
"Alfredo Simon is a pitcher that we like a great deal and will be slotted into our starting rotation," said Tigers President, CEO and General Manager, David Dombrowski. "Alfredo had a fine season last year, made the National League All Star team, and we're excited to him have join our ballclub."
Suarez, 22, batted .242 (59x244) with 33 runs scored, nine doubles, one triple, four home runs and 23 RBI in 85 games for the Tigers in 2014.
