Lions host tryouts for cheerleading squad

DETROIT – The Detroit Lions hosted tryouts Saturday morning for the team’s first cheerleading squad in more than four decades.

The first round of auditions began at about 10 a.m.

The new squad will perform choreographed dances and cheers as an integral part of the entertainment and have a presence in the community.

Finalists will go on to a five day training camp in mid-July.

The team anticipates introducing the squad in early August.

The regular season home opener is Sept. 18 against the Tennessee Titans.
