U.S. fencer Alexander Massialas wins silver medal in men's individual foil

Men's individual foil medal is first for U.S. since 1960

DETROIT – Last month, Local 4 introduced you to Ann Marsh-Senic, a former Olympic foil fencer who returned to the Games in Rio as a team captain.

The Michigan native, who at one time ranked among the top 10 fencers in her event, watched one of the U.S.'s 2016 competitors pull off something that hadn't been done in over 50 years.

Alexander Massialas earned a silver medal for fencing in the men's individual foil event. It's the first time a U.S. athlete has earned the honor since 1960.

Massialas overcame a 14-7 deficit earlier in the tournament to advance.
