Phelps swims his last Olympic event

Michael Phelps put a golden bow on his Olympic career with one last victory Saturday night in the 4x100-meter medley.

Phelps swam in the final of the event, the last event on Rio's swimming program, with Ryan Murphy, Cody Miller and Nathan Adrian setting an Olympic record.

The team posted a time of 3:09.92 to leave Great Britain with silver. Australia won bronze.

If Phelps sticks to his plans to retire, Saturday's medal leaves him with 28 total for his career.

He arrived at the 2016 Olympics already holding the record with 22 Olympic medals in his career and added five golds and one silver while in Rio.

The U.S. men have never lost the Olympic medley relay, excluding the boycotted 1980 Moscow Games.

The team that qualified with the second fastest time from Friday's preliminary heats consisted of David Plummer, Kevin Cordes, Tom Shields and Caeleb Dressel.
