Miguel Cabrera removed from Monday's game with biceps strain

Jarrod Saltalamacchia replaces Cabrera at 1st base

DETROIT – Tigers star first baseman Miguel Cabrera was removed from Monday night's game against Kansas City with a left biceps strain, the team announced.

Cabrera was pulled after four innings. He went 0-1 with a walk and a fly out to center field.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia replaced Cabrera at first base.

The Tigers have already lost three everyday starters in third baseman Nick Castellanos, shortstop Jose Iglesias and center fielder Cameron Maybin. All three players are on the 15-day disabled list.

Starting pitchers Mike Pelfrey and Jordan Zimmermann and reliever Drew VerHagen are also on the DL.

The Tigers trailed the Indians by 4 1/2 games in the AL Central at the start of Monday night's game.
