Jared Coreau will make NHL debut in goal for Red Wings tonight

Goaltender Jared Coreau will make his NHL debut for the Red Wings Saturday night when they face off against the Penguins in Pittsburgh, the team announced. 

Coreau, 25, has spent the past two seasons with the Grand Rapids Griffins. This season, the 6-foot-6 goalie is 8-5 with an .923 save percentage for Grand Rapids. 

Coreau was called up after Jimmy Howard suffered an injury Nov. 25 in New Jersey. Petr Mrazek relieved Howard in that game and has started each game since. Now it's time for Coreau to relieve Mrazek, and he'll be doing it against one of the best teams in the NHL.

The Penguins are 5th in the league with 31 points. Led by none other than Sidney Crosby (16G, 9A), Pittsburgh is one of the highest scoring teams in the NHL with 75 goals scored through 24 games played. Compare that to the Red Wings who have scored just 58 goals through 24 games. However, the Red Wings have allowed only 61 goals against while the Penguins have allowed 72.
