US Olympic women's hockey hopefuls take the ice vs Team Canada on Saturday in Plymouth
PLYMOUTH, Mich. – Olympic hopefuls for the U.S. women’s hockey team will take the ice Saturday against Team Canada at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth.
Game time is set for 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $15, on sale now through the arena’s box office at (734) 453-8400 or online here.
The game is the first of a pair between the US and Canada. Game 2 is Dec. 19 in Sarnia, Ontario. It’s part of the Team USA Winter Champions Series, which includes hockey, luge and big air snowboarding.
USA Hockey invited 37 players to its World Training Camp in Plymouth from Dec. 12-15. From that group they’ll pick the U.S. Women’s Select Team and begin formulating a squad for the 2017 International Ice Hockey Federation Women’s World Championship hosted in Plymouth March 31 to April 7.
USA Hockey reports that 23 members of the U.S. Women’s National Team that won the Four Nations Cup in early November and 21 players that won the gold medal at the IIHF Women’s World Championship in April 2016.
Fourteen of the players played on the 2014 U.S. Women’s team won a silver medal that the Olympics:
Kacey Bellamy (Westfield, Mass.), Megan Bozek (Buffalo Grove, Ill.), Alex Carpenter (North Reading, Mass.), Kendall Coyne (Palos Heights, Ill.), Brianna Decker (Dousman, Wis.), Meghan Duggan (Danvers, Mass.), Amanda Kessel (Madison, Wis.), Hilary Knight (Sun Valley, Idaho), Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson (Grand Forks, N.D.), Monique Lamoureux-Morando (Grand Forks, N.D.), Gigi Marvin (Warroad, Minn.), Anne Schleper (St. Cloud, Minn.), Kelli Stack (Brooklyn Heights, Ohio) and Lee Stecklein (Roseville, Minn.).
