Detroit Lions clinch playoff berth after Washington loss to Giants

Lions still have something to play for versus the Packers

DETROIT – The Detroit Lions have clinched a playoff spot after the New York Giants eliminated the Washington Redskins Sunday evening.

This is Detroit's third playoff appearance since 2010, and first since 2014, when the Lions lost to the Dallas Cowboys in the first round.

Detroit will take on Green Bay at Ford Field Sunday night with still plenty on the line - including the NFC North crown and a home playoff game.

An NFC North title would be the first since 1993 for Detroit.

The Giants beat the Redskins 19-10, clinching the game on a Kirk Cousins' interception with under 2 minutes to play.

The Giants win means the Lions are at least the No. 6 seed in the playoffs. Right now, the 6th seed would travel to Seattle to play the Seahawks. The Lions can improve to the No. 4 seed -- and get a home game against the Giants -- with a win tonight against the Packers.
