The Detroit Red Wings missed the playoffs but they didn't lose enough games to get one of the top NHL draft lottery positions.

While tanking for a better draft pick is not everyone's desire, the fact is sometimes losing pays -- just ask the Edmonton Oilers who grabbed Connor McDavid 1st overall in 2015. Of course, there is no McDavid in this year's draft.

The Red Wings now have a 6.7 percent chance of landing the 1st overall pick, according to Tankathon.com. The good news is the odds almost assure them someone in the top 10.
