Red Wings D Danny DeKeyser shoots hole-in-one at training camp golf outing

DeKeyser talks golf, competition on Red Wings blue line

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. – Danny DeKeyser was all smiles when Local 4 caught up with him Thursday after the annual Detroit Red Wings Training Camp Golf Classic.

That's because he won a two-year lease on a new Porsche and a new putter when he shot a hole-in-one. The defenseman plans to drive the new car to Little Caesars Arena when the season gets started next month.

"I'm an up-and-down golfer. I have really good days and I have really bad days," he said. "Today just happened to be a really good day."

His tips for golf are: Keep your head down, get the hands through the ball and hope it goes in when you hit it well.

As for hockey, DeKeyser is excited about the competition on the Red Wings blue line this season.

"I think it's really good competition. We obviously have a few players there that can make a difference. We signed Trevor Daley. He's a great player, skates really well. I've been watching him here the last couple of weeks and he's going to help our team a lot," said DeKeyser.

DeKeyser is heading into his sixth season with the Red Wings. He, like most of his teammates, had forgettable performances last season. He's happy to be looking forward now.

"With the playoff streak came some pressure. Unfortunately that ended last year. That's not what we would have wanted, but that's the case. And we just move on from there ... it's off our backs and we don't have to worry about it anymore," he said.

Red Wings training camp is Sept 15-18

Meanwhile, the Red Wings is underway in Traverse City. Red Wings players, prospects and tryouts will be divided into teams that will practice and scrimmage throughout camp, leading up to the annual Red and White Game at noon Monday.
