Michigan takes on Louisville in basketball National Championship game

Fourth-seeded Michigan takes on one-seeded Louisville Monday night for the national basketball title. will have a blog going throughout the game with scores and highlights.

2nd half: Michigan 76, Louisville 82

Louisville came out strong with a 3-pointer to take the lead. Michigan's Glen Robinson III responded with a jumper to tie the game at 40.

The teams exchanged 1-point leads until Michigan hit another 3-point shot.


The Wolverines had a 4-point lead, 46-42. The Cardinals brought it back to a 1-point game, and then took the lead 47-46.


Louisville grabbed the lead again, 49-47, and then 52-47 thanks to a timely 3-point shot from the corner. The teams started making baskets a quicker pace midway through the 2nd half.


Louisville led by two, 54-52. They climbed to a 4-point lead, 58-54. Tim Hardaway Jr. had a huge dunk just under 10 minutes to go in the half, making it 60-58 Louisville.

The Cardinals pushed the lead to 63-58. Michigan's Trey Burke made a timely layup to close it to 63-60. He also made the free throw. But Louisville went back down court to score 2.


The Cardinals had a 4-point lead, 65-61. Michigan brought it back within 3 at 67-64.


Louisville led 71-65 with less than 5 minutes to play in the half. A big three-point shot put the Cardinals up by 10, but Michigan responded with a bucket, making it 76-68 with 3 minutes to go.


The Cardinals clung to an 8-point lead, and then a 6-point lead. Michigan closed it to 78-74 with a 1:20 left.

Michigan was forced to start fouling the Cardinals with less than 40 seconds remaining.

The Cardinals held on to win 82-76.

1st half: Michigan 38, Louisville 37

Michigan struck first with a layup from Trey Burke. The Wolverines followed up with a long three pointer.

Louisville responded with a triple of its own.

The teams started to settle down and set up offenses. Louisville was able to tie it up at 7.

Michigan went up again with another three-pointer. The Wolverines pulled away slightly 17-11. Louisville made a couple free throws to keep it within 4.

The Wolverines just kept throwing down the 3-point shots, keeping their opponents on the run. Spike Albrecht struck again.


Michigan led 20-15 after 8 minutes of play. Louisville scored 2 of 3 free throws after being fouled beyond the arc, bringing the score to 20-17.

Michigan made it an 8-point game with another 3-point shot, 25-17. At this point, Albrecht was 4-4 overall and 3-3 beyond the arc. Nik Stauskas was 1-2.


Michigan still had a 7-point lead, 26-19, then extended it to 28-19. Albrecht wasn't nearly done. He hit another three point shot to make it 31-21.


Michigan had a 12-point lead with less than 4 minutes to play in the 1st half. Albrecht had 17 points.

Louisville finally got some 3-pointers of its own, bringing the game back within 7, 36-29, and then again to make it 36-32.


Louisville started to mount a comeback by stopping Michigan and hitting another 3-point shot, making it 36-35. The Cardinals took their first lead of the game with seconds remaining, 37-36.

That was short-lived as Michigan made a couple free throws to grab the lead right back, 38-37.

Michigan went into the locker room with a 1-point lead.
