Detroit Red Wings center Luke Glendening to miss 3-4 months after ankle surgery

DETROIT – A Detroit Red Wings player is expected to be back on the ice this winter following a successful surgery on an injury he sustained last season.

After missing the last seven games of the 2016-2017 season due to a fractured left ankle, center Luke Glendening is expected to be in full recovery from his surgery on Monday, June 5, according to the NHL.

Glendening also had damaged tendons on his ankle.

"The surgery was done to repair an injury he suffered late in the season," Red Wings executive vice president and general manager Ken Holland said.

"We hoped he would improve with rest and immobilization, but we decided at this point that surgery was necessary to make sure he is ready for the 2017-18 season."

The recovery is expected to take three to four months.
