2 Plymouth Whalers get NHL contracts

New Jersey Devils sign G Scott Wedgewood, Carolina Hurricanes sign D Austin Levi

DETROIT – Two Plymouth Whalers players signed NHL contracts this week.

Goalie Scott Wedgewood signed an entry-level contract with the New Jersey Devils. Defenseman Austin Levi signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Wedgewood was New Jersey's second choice in the third round and 84th overall in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. He has spent the past four seasons with the Whalers. He is 28-10-3 with three shutouts, a 3.02 goals against average and .911 save percentage.

Levi also has spent four seasons with Plymouth. He ranks second among Whalers defensemen with 24 assists and 29 points. The Hurricanes selected him in the third round, 85th overall, in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. He has 68 points and 253 penalty minutes in 209 OHL games.

The Whalers will open the OHL playoffs on Friday against the Guelph Storm at Compuware Arena.
