Whalers beat Greyhounds 3-2 in SO

Plymouth gets win over Sault Ste. Marie in shootout

PLYMOUTH, Mich. – Jordan Addesi's first goal as a Plymouth Whaler doesn't count toward his personal statistics. But it counts in a big way towards a Plymouth victory.

Addesi scored the deciding goal in a shootout as the Whalers came from behind to defeat the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, 3-2, in an Ontario Hockey League matinee played Thursday at Compuware Arena.

After Addesi scored to give the Whalers a 3-2 lead in the shootout, first star Alex Nedeljkovic stopped Soo rookie Michael Bunting to preserve the victory.

Plymouth improves to 14-21-0-4. Sault Ste. Marie is 26-8-1-4.

Trailing 2-1 in the final minute of play in regulation, Plymouth head coach Mike Vellucci pulled Nedeljkovic for the extra attacker and the move worked when Zach Lorentz tied the game with his 16th goal of the year at 19:04.

Earlier, the Hounds had leads of 1-0 and 2-1, only to see Plymouth comeback each time.

Segei Tolcinsky scored his 21st of the year and Jared McCann his 18th for the Soo. Besides Lorentz's goal, Carter Sandlak added his team-leading 18th of the season for the Whalers.

Nedeljkovic continued his good play for the Whalers. He won his third straight shootout and stopped 32-o-f34 shots in the Plymouth victory.

The Whalers are off until Saturday when they host Niagara at 7:05 pm at Compuware Arena.
