Plymouth Whalers face Owen Sound, Oshawa during Thanksgiving week

PLYMOUTH, Mich. – The Plymouth Whalers play twice at home this week, sandwiching games at Compuware Arena on Wednesday and Friday around Thanksgiving.

Wednesday, November 27 – Owen Sound (11-10-1-3) at Plymouth (11-14-0-1), 7:05 pm, Compuware Arena – Radio, 6:45 pm 88.1FM WSDP; TV – 7 pm CN-900:

Owen Sound captain Zach Nastasiuk (in photo) is a Detroit Red Wings draft who has already been signed by Detroit. Dallas-draft Gemel Smith is one of the OHL league leaders with 20 goals in 25 games. Colorado-draft Chris Bigras is solid on the Attack blue line.

Plymouth is coming off an emotional 2-1 win on Sunday in Windsor. Left wing Matt Mistele (7 goals and three assists for 10 points in 15 games) scored in all three Plymouth games last weekend and is up for the 2014 NHL Draft as is goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic (3.32 GAA, .912 Save %). Veteran left wing Carter Sandlak leads the team with 14 goals (his career high for a single season).

The Whalers – hurt early in the season when Tom Wilson made the NHL's Washington Capitals and Connor Carrick made the AHL Hershey Bears – are a young team steadily improving

Friday, November 29 – Oshawa (19-6-0-1) at Plymouth, 7:05 pm, Compuware Arena – TV, 7 pm CN 900:
The Generals roll into Compuware with the best record in the OHL's Eastern Conference. Michael Dal Colle – up for the 2014 NHL Draft – leads Oshawa in scoring and is third in the OHL with 17 goals and 27 assists for 44 points in 26 game. Veteran Scott Laughton started the season with the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers, but was sent back to Oshawa and has 19 goals with 19 assists for 38 points in 22 games. Goaltender Daniel Altshuller (Carolina) is solid with a 2.58 GAA, .919 save percentage and 17-5-0-1 won-loss record.
