The legendary Jaromir Jagr is a free agent wondering why he isn't getting any calls from NHL teams.
The 45-year-old winger was active on Twitter Thursday evening explaining he's calling teams but no one is picking up.
Everywhere I look,I read:all FA getting calls from10-12teams. Me0 calls.On the contrary,I'm trying to call them,and no ones picking up.😀😳🇨🇿 — Jaromir Jagr (@68Jagr) June 29, 2017
Jagr has spent the past 2 and 1/2 seasons with the Florida Panthers. He scored 27 goals and 39 assists in 2015-16. His production dropped significantly this past season in which he scored just 16 goals but added 30 assists.
Jagr is known as an "ageless wonder" with a work ethic unmatched. But is Father Time finally catching up to him? He's played 1,711 NHL games and holds a long list of league records. He was league MVP way back in 1999.
Florida GM says he's in talks with Jagr's agent
Florida GM Dave Tallon told ESPN he has been having "cordial" talks with Jagr's agent about bringing him back in the fall.
"I've been talking to (Jagr's agent) almost every day, every other day. I just talked to him today. We're going to talk again tomorrow. So I don't know where that's coming from," Tallon told ESPN.
It's unclear whether anyone else would be interested in picking up Jagr for a year. Teams are trying to get faster up front, and Jagr just doesn't have the speed he once had, say, 20 years ago.
Jagr gets nostalgic
He was getting a bit nostalgic Thursday night, thinking back to 1994 when he was a free agent after a season in which he scored 32 goals and 67 assists. He was just 22 years young.
He's played for eight different NHL teams, a Czech professional team and a KHL team since his career began in 1988. He hasn't won the Stanley Cup since the Pittsburgh Penguins won back-to-back in 1991 and 1992. It appears he may not have the chance to finish his career with a contender.
NHL free agency starts at noon Saturday.
