DETROIT – Two days have passed since Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Justin Verlander finished in second place for the American League Cy Young Award, but sparks are still flying from the voting results.
Verlander's fiancee, model and actress Kate Upton, expressed her outrage Wednesday over two writers who left the Tigers' ace completely off their voting ballots.

"Hey MLB, I thought I was the only person allowed to ---- Justin Verlander?" Upton tweeted. "What 2 writers didn't have him on their ballot?"
Sometimes tone doesn't translate over social media, but it seems like Upton disagrees with the final outcome. Luckily, her follow-up tweets erased any doubt.
"He had the majority of 1st place votes and 2 writers didn't have him on their ballots?!!" Upton tweeted afterward. "Can you pick more out of touch people to vote, MLB?"

Well, Mark Feinsand, Yankees writer for the New York Daily News, tweeted Thursday, "Hey, Kate Upton ... pipe down! There's no scandal in Justin Verlander not winning the AL Cy Young."
For the first time since the controversy began, Verlander himself jumped into the fray.
.@FeinsandNYDN She wasn't upset about me losing. That's fine. But turning in a ballot a week b4 the season ends?! https://t.co/J59frfX79M

Her point was they were uninformed. That they turned in their ballot a week early only validated her point. https://t.co/X2ScjTRbqP

Also if you "don't disagree" where do you get off telling anyone to "pipe down"?!? https://t.co/X2ScjTRbqP

It's not unthinkable that Rick Porcello would win the Cy Young Award after his excellent season. But it is strange that two writers -- who both cover the same team -- left Verlander completely off the ballot.
Whether or not Verlander deserved to win the award, letting Upton vent sounds like a much better option than telling her to "pipe down" on a social media site designed for people to spew their opinions all over the internet.
The Cy Young voting is over, but the debate may never die.
