KANSAS CITY, MO. - The Detroit Tigers ended their first series after the All-Star break on a positive note beating the Kansas City Royals 4-1 Sunday afternoon, avoiding a sweep in the process.

Miguel Cabrera put the Tigers ahead 1-0 in the 1st inning with a solo home run to left, his 31st of the season.  

Andy Dirks added a solo home run of his own in the 5th inning to give Detroit the lead for good.

Doug Fister pitched 6 innings, allowing only one run on six hits, striking out five to improve to 8-5 on the season.

Detroit continues their road trip with a four-game series against the Chicago White Sox before returning home for a weekend series against the Philadelphia Phillies.
