DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers will face the San Francisco Giants in the 2012 World Series after the Giants defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 9-0 Monday night in Game 7 of the National League Championship Series.
The Giants are returning to the World Series just two years since winning it in 2010.
San Francisco will have home-field advantage because the National League won the All-Star game. Game 1 is 8 p.m. Wednesday in San Francisco.
The Giants' regular season record was 94-68. Detroit's was 88-74.
The franchises have never met in the World Series. The Tigers have four titles -- most recent in 1984 -- to the Giants' six.
However, the Giants have won just a single World Series since moving to San Francisco in 1958. The other five were earned when they were known as the New York Giants.
