Woman sues Ndamukong Suh for role in Oregon car crash

Woman seeks more than $1 million, claiming Suh drove recklessly, inflicted emotional distress

DETROIT – Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh is the target of a lawsuit which claims he was driving recklessly last year when he was involved in a car crash in Portland, Oregon.

Saadia Van Winkle was in the back seat of Suh's car when the crash happened in December. Van Winkle is seeking more than $1 million in damages as she claims Suh engaged in reckless driving and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Van Winkle also says she suffered neck and back injuries and a scar above her eye.

Suh has not commented on the suit.

Portland police said Suh was driving a 1970 Chevrolet coupe southbound on Third Avenue in a downtown part of the city just after 1 a.m. when he lost control, hit a curb, a light pole, drinking fountain and finally a tree.

Police said the 24-year-old "was not impaired and simply lost control of his vehicle."

Suh and his two passengers were not hurt. However, Van Winkle and the other passenger came forward a day after the crash to say they were, in fact, injured. The police report was amended to include the claims.
