DETROIT - The Detroit Red Wings have been without All-Star goalie Jimmy Howard for the past two games since he broke his finger Thursday night in Vancouver.

The team said his finger would be evaluated by their medical staff upon returning to Detroit after the western road trip.

The Red Wings have lost the past two games. They fell in a shootout Saturday night in Edmonton, 5-4. Backup goalie Ty Conklin started that game but was pulled after allowing three goals on nine shots in the first period. Joey MacDonald played the last two periods. He stopped 22 of 23 shots and made a few saves in the shootout.

MacDonald started Monday night in Phoenix where the Red Wings fell 3-1 to the Coyotes. He made 20 saves in that game.

The Edmonton Oilers will be in Detroit for a game Wednesday night.

Howard's 32 wins this season is a league best.
