The New York Rangers decided to make a move for the 7th overall pick ahead of Friday night's 2017 NHL Entry Draft.

In a deal with the Arizona Coyotes, who have had a busy day already, the Rangers picked up defenseman Anthony DeAngelo and the 7th overall pick while giving the Coyotes Derek Stepan and Antti Raanta.

Stepan, 27, has been at the heart of New York's perennial playoff team since he went pro in 2010. He has 360 points in 515 games with the Blue Shirts.

Raanta, 28, has been backing Henrik Lundqvist for the past two seasons. He went 16-8-2 with a .922 save percentage this past season.

DeAngelo, 21, was a 1st-round draft pick by the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2014. He has played just 39 NHL games since turning pro in 2015. The Rangers likely are hoping he can step in to add depth on the blue line quickly, and for years to come.

The Rangers also have the 21st overall pick. The Coyotes have the 23rd overall pick, which they acquired through a previous trade with the Minnesota Wild.
