Detroit City FC shuts out new cross-town rival Michigan Stars, 3-0

Zach Myers scores 2 more, keeper Bret Mollon gets another shutout

DETROIT – Detroit City FC hosted the Michigan Stars Friday night in front of a record crowd at Cass Tech High School with 2,641 in attendance.

This was the second straight shutout game for goalkeeper Bret Mollon. He was tested often by the Stars but stifled their attempts. He was helped by stellar defense led by captain Josh Rogers.

DCFC's offense set a record with Zach Myers notching his 2nd and 3rd goals of the season to top the NPSL Great Lakes East Conference. Myers' first goal in the 22nd minute was assisted by William Mellors-Blair, who also came up with the second goal of the night just two minutes later in the 24th. WMB's goal was assisted by Spencer Thompson on a breakaway. He slotted it past Stars goalkeeper Vito Lonigro. Myers came up with the third goal of the night in the 40th minute off a throw-in by Cyrus Saydee.

Even though the action of the goals were all contained to the first half, the second half was just as eventful, starting off with a straight red card to Stars player Miki Djersilo for dissent along with a yellow card to Thompson during discussions between teams after the call.

Michigan Stars captain Stefan St. Louis, who once played for DCFC and actually netted their first goal ever, was silenced along with the rest of the team when every attempt they made to come back into the game was denied by Mollon and the defense.

The Northern Guard and Le Rouge fans came prepared for a good game and showed up in force to once again cheer on their team with great passion and fan fare. At one point, the Northern Guard section, at the other far side of the pitch, participated with DCFC fans on the near side with a DC-FC chant.
