Detroit Waza Flo trade team owner to Las Vegas Legends

DETROIT – In an unprecedented move, the Detroit Waza Flo have traded their team owner, coach and player Dominic Scicluna to the Las Vegas Legends.

"Waza is in my blood, but when Legends owner Meir Cohen offered me to come to Las Vegas I loved the idea," Scicluna said. "Indoor soccer is my life and I'm blessed for the opportunity to come and spread this love all over the west coast. I'm joining a great organization and I'm here to help them win it all."

The deal was made shortly before the MASL's trade deadline passed.

"We are in the entertainment business, and when you have the opportunity to bring not only a good veteran player, but also the best entertainer of the game, you do not hesitate," Cohen said. "I know how much impact Dominic will bring to our team on the field, but more important, the off the field energy and excitement that he will bring to our community."

Las Vegas, coached by Doug Borgel, is the reigning Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) Pacific Division champion. The PASL combined with the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) to form the MASL this year.

The Legends are still in the playoff hunt, just two games behind Ontario and three behind San Diego in the MASL Pacific Division. Scicluna will play in Vegas' three remaining regular season games. They take on Baltimore Friday, San Diego on Feb. 13 and Sacramento on Feb. 22.

Scicluna will also serve as the Legends' Director of Player Personnel and assistant coach.

Waza Flo players were informed of the trade after losing Saturday night to the St. Louis Ambush.

The team will now be led by Scicluna's brother and team President Mario Scicluna. He'll act as assistant coach to help head coach Costea Decu.

Detroit has five regular season games remaining on their schedule, but have no shot at the playoffs with a record of 3-12.

The Waza Flo's next home game is Saturday at 7:05 p.m. against the Harrisburg Heat.
