Waza Flo looking to break losing streak against Heat

MELVINDALE, Mich. - The Detroit Waza Flo (3-12) are sitting in 4th place in the Eastern Division of the MASL and will battle the last-place Harrisburg Heat (1-13) Saturday night.

At four wins behind the 3rd place Rochester Lancers (7-8), Detroit's playoff hopes have all but vanished. The top three teams in each division qualify for the postseason, and Rochester's record is likely unreachable for Detroit with just five games remaining.

Saturday night is the second-to-last home game this season for Detroit, with the last coming on Feb. 14 against Chicago.

Game time: 7 p.m. at Melvindale Civic Arena

Co-owner and President Mario Scicluna will take over as one of the assistant coaches to help head coach Costea Decu after owner Dominic Scicluna was sent to the Las Vegas Legends.

"We will continue to play our hearts out for the rest of the season," Mario Scicluna said.

Added Decu: "As a team, we are going to try to get the most of the rest of the season and hopefully we will snap out of the losing streak."

Saturday night offers the best opportunity for Detroit to end its eight-game losing streak, as the Waza Flo have won both matchups with the Heat this season. In the season opener, Detroit topped Harrisburg 8-4. Two weeks later, Detroit scored its season high in goals, routing Harrisburg 14-6.

The Heat are coming off their first win of the season last Friday against the St. Louis Ambush.

The Waza Flo will welcome back goalkeeper Trent Messick to the roster after his strong performance against the Ambush last week earned him an MASL Team of the Week honorable mention.
