DETROIT - Regional winners of the Edward R. Murrow Award were announced today by the Radio Television Digital News Association and WDIV-Local 4 is honored to receive three of the coveted awards for Newscast, Continuing Coverage and Use of Sound.
“These are truly team awards for us. I am incredibly proud of all of our journalists who work so hard every day and are being recognized for keeping our community informed and telling the stories that need to be told,” said Local 4 News Director Kim Voet.
“The Murrow Awards, in our profession, are one of the most respected honors. We value the spirit of the award and we continually strive to bring our viewers the highest standards and best news reporting possible,” said Vice-President and General Manager Marla Drutz.

Local 4’s newscast on January 20, 2016, included major breaking stories: Gov. Snyder releasing his emails on Flint; the Bob Bashara bombshell; sickouts shutting down Detroit Public Schools and President Obama in Detroit, in addition to other important stories of the day.
Continuing Coverage – Flint Water Crisis
The station has had an unwavering new focus since the start of the Flint Water Crisis, including a primetime special and travel to Washington, D.C. to cover developments on Capitol Hill. Using the power of local television and the support of a strong and caring community, WDIV organized the Flint Water Crisis 4 Our Families statewide telethon and raised $1.13 million.
Use of Sound – Moving the Chapel
News videographer Matt Wilson used outstanding natural sound to convey the impact to the community in his story about moving the historic Kolping Chapel to the Chesterfield Township Historical Village.
The RTDNA has been honoring outstanding achievements in electronic journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971. Murrow's pursuit of excellence in journalism embodies the spirit of the awards that carry his name.
This honor comes at the heels of WDIV-Local 4 winning the NAB Service to America Award.
