Paula Tutman

Reporter

Emmy award-winning broadcast journalist, Paula Tutman came to Local 4 in 1992 at the tender age of 16 (not true, but she feels good saying it). She's a Peace Corps brat who spent her early childhood living in Sierra Leone, West Africa and Tanzania, East Africa, hence her odd pronunciation of the word, "again" as "a-gayne."

She says she comes from a family of over-achievers. Her older brother is a law professor and professional environmentalist who takes on big-time corporate polluters in Maryland to protect tributaries and watersheds.

Paula brings up the rear of the Tutman-clan as the founder and board chair of Children's Tooth Fairy Foundation, a 501c3, non-profit that provides education and dental care funding to uninsured and underserved children in Southeastern, Michigan, including children of active military personnel. Website: http://childrenstoothfairyfoundation.org/ She also does community work for several other area organizations that provide services for children or support music and the arts.

Paula considers community work her second full-time job and invites the community to get involved with the care of fellow human beings. She loves the outdoors, nature, gardening, sailing, cycling, cross-country skiing, painting, writing, theatre, National Geographic television and opera. She's an award winning author who has recently completed her third thriller novel and first screenplay.

She's married and the stepmother of three beautiful and brilliant daughters.

Her personal philosophy in life, love and community is, "Do as much as you can possibly do, not as little as you can possibly get away with".

A little known fact: Paula met her husband on a blind motor cycle date and the two eloped to Alaska where no one could follow them to get married.

She considers herself a nerd who disguises her true nerdiness with hair and make-up.
