Google may open retail stores by the end of the year, according to a report by 9to5Google.
In the report, an unnamed source says Google is in the process of building stand-alone retail stores and hopes to have a flagship store open for the holidays.
The stores will facilitate the eventual launch of eyeglasses called Google Glass, according to the report.
The eyeglasses are in essence a hands-free smartphone device that offers internet and email via voice commands.
Competitors such as, Apple and Microsoft both have retail outlets for customers to try products before they buy.
The report didn't list specific opening dates or potential locations and only made mention to stores, "opening in major U.S. metropolitan areas by the 2013 holiday shopping season."
Google currently has mini "Chrome Store" models set up at several Best Buys in the U.S. where trained employees demonstrate Chromebook.
The report says the retail stores will offer similar services as model stores, and will potentially serve to demonstrate other upcoming products.
Google has not yet commented on the report.
