ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. - A customer who shot at shoplifters fleeing a Home Depot in suburban Detroit is returning to court for her sentence.
Tatiana Duva-Rodriguez fired her gun in the parking lot, flattening a tire on the thieves' SUV in October. She pleaded no-contest to reckless discharge of a gun.
The 46-year-old Clarkston woman will get her sentence on Wednesday in Rochester Hills District Court. She was licensed to carry a concealed weapon, but she wasn't being threatened by the shoplifters. Prosecutor Jessica Cooper called the shooting "disturbing."
Defense attorney Steven Lyle Schwartz hopes Duva-Rodriguez is hit with fines, not jail.
The shoplifters were arrested a few days after the incident occurred at a Home Depot in Auburn Hills.
