For the Jackson County Board of Commissioners District 5 seat, Republican James “Steve” Shotwell Jr. is leading Democrat Nathanael Mulvihill. Jackson voters are also deciding two Jackson School Board seats. Countywide, proposals for a Jackson County Jail addition and 911 surcharge are failing.

Culver has worked as a production supervisor and customer liaison for General Motors, as a math interventionist at Elisabeth Ann Johnson High School in Mt. Morris and as the owner of Maple Hill Farm, a manufacturer of soaps and toiletries.

JACKSON COUNTY, MI – A new map that impacts representation in county government has been picked, but not everyone is happy with how it impacts the city of Jackson. The completion of a new U.S. Census each decade by law initiates the redrawing of the county district map. Jackson County’s group passed the new Jackson County plan with a 3-2 vote Wednesday. Commissioners Jerry Jarzynka, Jackson County prosecutor; Karen Coffman, Jackson County treasurer; and Amanda Kirkpatrick, Jackson County clerk -- all Republicans -- voted yes. The Jackson County Apportionment Commission will meet again at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 28 on the fifth floor of the Jackson County Tower Building, 120 W. Michigan Ave., to accept a formal resolution in accepting the approved plan.

Driskell announces third bid for Congress
Democrat Gretchen Driskell is running for Congress again. On Wednesday, the former Saline mayor announced her candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives in 2020 for District 7. In November 2018, Walberg beat Driskell to earn his sixth consecutive two-year term in Congress. In a statement, Driskell said she was running for Congress because Michiganders know that Washington is broken and we need someone who will work for us. In addition to her 14 years as mayor, Driskell served six years on the Saline City Council and built a career as a commercial real estate agent.
