Israel's settlements could test ties with Biden
Israel's West Bank settlements could provide a key test case for U.S.-Israel relations during the Biden presidency. But doing so would risk antagonizing the incoming president, who has a long history of opposition to Israeli construction in the occupied West Bank. With the Biden administration expected to re-engage with Iran over its nuclear program, Netanyahuโs top security concern, he seems unlikely to pick a fight with the president-elect. Then, in January, he unveiled a Mideast plan that envisions placing parts of the West Bank, including all of the settlements, under permanent Israeli control. Anti-settlement monitoring groups expect additional settlement approvals in the West Bank and east Jerusalem before the end of Trump's term.
