53 regional champs highlight Kalamazoo-area girls track 2022 state qualifiers

KALAMAZOO, MI - Athletes from across the Kalamazoo-area put their season on the line at the weekend’s track and field regional meets, and dozens of girls ran, jumped, threw and vaulted their way to a state finals berth. Three squads – Otsego, Lawton and Marcellus – captured team titles, while 53 individual regional championships went to local athletes, led by Lawton sophomore Kendra Koster, who won all four of her events. Six more local athletes were three-time winners, including Kalamazoo Central’s Susana Roberts, Three Rivers’ Kylin Griffin, Otsego’s Megan Germain, Gobles’ Kaya Huizenga and Deanna Wood and Lawton’s Heidi Newhouse, who will look to carry that success over to the state finals on Saturday, June 4. KALAMAZOO, MI - Athletes from across the Kalamazoo-area put their season on the line at the weekend’s track and field regional meets, and 84 girls ran, jumped, threw and vaulted their way to a state finals berth. Three squads -- Otsego, Lawton and Gobles -- captured team titles, while 39 individuals earned regional championships, including Plainwell’s Mackenzie Hill, Gobles’ Morgan Modert and Kalamazoo Hackett’s Sage Brown, who all captured a trio of first-place finishes and will look to carry that success over to the state finals on Saturday, June 5. The Division 1 meet takes place at East Kentwood, while Division 2 is at Zeeland, Division 3 at Jenison and Division 4 at Hudsonville Baldwin Middle School. 8 Kalamazoo-area athletes earn all-state honors at 2020-21 high school swim finals

KALAMAZOO, MI - A late start to the season and an eight-week delay to the state finals made the 2020-21 girls swimming and diving season an unprecedented one, and for at least eight Kalamazoo-area athletes, the big stage provided an unforgettable experience. Eight local swimmers captured all-state honors over the weekend, including championship performances from Portage Northern’s Hannah Williams and Angelina Baker, Plainwell’s Riley Nugent and Otsego’s Abie Sullivan. Williams’ wins in the 200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, Baker’s win in the 500 freestyle and Sullivan’s championship in the 1-meter dive were especially notable, as each one set a pool record.
